Purposing our Days for Ministry
Now what? Quarantine is not new now. What is next? During this time of quarantine and social distancing, what are you doing about ministry? How are you spending your ministry minutes and energy? Here are some things we have been inspired to practice and we thought you might benefit from them as well.
Stay in the Word. This is a fantastic time to get even more firmly rooted in the Bible. Find online Bible studies that you can join or do personal journaling and Bible study on your own. If your church is doing online church, make it a point to tune in. In addition, you may also want to check out other online church services and teachers.
Reach out. Take a few minutes to consider how you may reach out to people you are called to serve. Whether you are a church employee or a volunteer, your people would love to hear from you. They would like to know that you haven’t forgotten them and that you care. We are continuing to reach out through Zoom gatherings, phone calls, quick texts, social media posts and private messages, and emails. We are thinking that some snail mail may be included in our next steps.
Expand your Knowledge. Take advantage of online classes and opportunities to learn from others. We also realized that this would be a wonderful time to do some continuing education ourselves. We are grabbing opportunities that have come our way so that we can love our people better. We have learned from experts on finances, mental health, technology, special needs siblings, and an ongoing class on helping kids who deal with trauma. Our plan is to continue to look for those kinds of opportunities so that we can expand our support. What are you interested in learning about to help the people you serve? Look for classes and folks sharing on topics that would be relevant for your ministry.
Build a Leader Community Online. Hook up with other leaders and brainstorm ideas and techniques. Share resources with each other.
Dream for Future Ministry. What more can you do? Set goals to prepare for anticipated events to come during this time of quarantine and when we can be socially together again.
God has given us everything we need for life and godliness. He is bigger than a quarantine. If he calls us to it, He will equip us with fresh ideas and energy to do it. So, let’s be faithful and be about our Father’s business.
If you would like to brainstorm with us, keep in touch.
