Calming techniques for the children.
These ideas are good for all children –
- those who have special challenges and
- those more typically developing children.
Whether your children have notable sensory issues or not, they can be calmed by the following activities at any time of day:
Physical Activities:
- Deep massages of arms and legs.
- Couch cushion sandwich and/or burrito roll.
- Jumping jacks.
- Run around the outside of your house.
- Walk on a treadmill.
- Jump on a mini-trampoline.
Music. Play classical music.
Sensory input:
Flexible seating.
- exercise ball
- bean bag chair,
- Movin’ Sit Jr. Inflatable Seat Cushion,
- pillows,
- cushions from the couch.
Cozy spaces to crawl into and lie or sit in.
Sensory input through the hands:
- Hand fidget tools
- Watery beads sensory toys,
- Sensory Stixx hand fidget
- non-sticky hand putty
